Honeywell 50101 Air Purifier Review
Post date: October 12th, 2011
The Honeywell 50101 air purifier is a model which is suitable for small to medium-sized rooms up to 150 square feet or around 12 by 12 feet. For the price it does a lot of air cleaning!
It has a two stage filtering process using a carbon pre-filter and a true HEPA filter which captures airborne particles down to 0.3 microns such as dust, cat dander, tobacco smoke, pollen and mold spores.
It also has a filter change calendar to remind you when to change the HEPA filter.
It has a patented 360 degree air intake and discharge system. The air is taken in at the bottom of the unit and discharged at the top but in a 360″ circle which allows excellent circulation of the purified air around the room.
It’s also has SurroundSeal HEPA filter technology. This means that is has a special seal which prevents leakage and ensures that all the air taken into the unit passes through the HEPA filter.
This is one of the Enviracaire series of air purifiers produced by Honeywell which include the 50100, 50150, 50200, 50250 and 50300. You can check our Honeywell 50250 review. The Honeywell 50250 has electronic indicators to tell you when the pre-filter needs changing and has a permanent true HEPA filter which can be vacuum cleaned and has a much longer life than a normal HEPA filter like that in the 50101.

Honeywell 50101 Air Purifier Filter Type
The Honeywell 50101 has a two-stage cleaning process incorporating a carbon pre-filter and a true HEPA filter. The true HEPA filter removes 99.97% of common airborne particles like dust, pollen, tobacco smoke, mold spore and cat dander as small as 0.3 microns.
The model has a HEPA filter change calendar wheel to remind you when to change the HEPA filter. You have to set calendar from 1 to 3 years depending upon the level of pollutants in the air. So, if you have a few cats or dogs, you probably need to set it to 1 year. If you live in a pretty clean environment, you could possibly get away with 3 years. Once you’ve set this, you move the calendar along three months every time you replace the pre-filter. So, it’s a manual system to keep a record of when the change is due.
The carbon pre-filter (model 38002) helps to remove household odors and prevents the coarser airborne particles reaching the HEPA filter and thereby extending its life. It’s advisable to at least replace the pre-filter every three months. The replacement for this filter is the 38002.
This model has SurroundSeal HEPA filter technology which minimizes air leaks and ensures all the air drawn into the air purifier passes through the HEPA filter.
Fan Speed
The Honeywell 50101 air purifier has three speeds: low for night-time quiet operation, medium for daytime operation and high for fast initial cleaning.
Coverage Area

| Type of Particle | CADR |

| Tobacco Smoke | 100 |
| Pollen | 100 |
AHAM specify that the tobacco smoke rating should be at least two thirds of the room size in square feet. This means this purifier is rated for a room of 150 square feet. This model doesn’t have Energy Star rating.

“Yes, there is some noise, even on the lowest setting, but who cares. Especially when the product really works. I used it in a friend’s home for about a week, and I NEVER would have survived all the cat hair and dust without this. I recommend it to anyone that has pet allergies. I kept the purifier on level 2 and level 3 (highest setting) the entire week. It made a huge difference. Order this product with confidence… (read more here: Honeywell 50101 Air Purifier Review)”
