Honeywell 16200 Air Purifier Review
Post date: October 10th, 2011
The Honeywell 16200 air purifier is a true economy model. It’s a compact desktop model which is suitable for small rooms of up to eighty square feet such as a bedroom, an office or a small kitchen. At present, it’s a bargain at under $50 at Amazon. It can be put on a table or on the floor and can be placed horizontally or vertically to save space.
It’s also pretty handy if you want to take an air purifier with you when you travel.
It has a four-stage cleaning process comprising a washable pre-filter, a HEPA-type filter,a carbon filter to absorb household odors and an ionizer.
If all you need is a basic economy model, this model can’t be beat on the price. Since it has only a HEPA-type filter, it will not be as efficient at removing the smaller particles down to 0.3 microns as a true HEPA filter. However, you’d have to go up in price to get a true HEPA filter. It does a better job than the Honeywel HHT-011 whose HEPA-type filter only captures 95% of particles.

Honeywell 16200 Air Purifier Filter Type
The Honeywell 16200 air purifier has a four-stage cleaning process comprising:
- Washable particle pre-filter which can be removed and shaken or rinsed by hand in warm water. It must be completely dry before replacing.
- An odor-lock carbon filter to help with removing household odors from the room.
- A HEPA type filter with ProTec antimicrobial treatment which prevents the growth of mold and bacteria on the filter. The filter captures 99% of airborne particles such as dust.tobacco smoke, pollen, cat dander and mold spores.
- An electronic ionizer which produces ions in the air which go into the room and cause particles to stick together and fall to the ground giving a further cleansing effect in the room.
The HEPA type and carbon filter come as one unit for which the replacement is the Honeywell 16206 Replacement Filter. The cost of these is quite reasonable.
A red LED light warns you when it is time to change the HEPA-type filter which is usually around every six months.
Fan Speed
This model has three fan speeds: low, medium and high. High setting is the noisiest since it does the most cleaning. Low is suitable for the bedroom when you are sleeping. The fan speed is controlled by a dial on the control panel.
Coverage Area
The Honeywell 16200 air purifier is suitable for small rooms up to 80 square feet. It would be ideal for a small bedroom, office or kitchen. The unit should be placed at least 3 feet from any wall or furniture. It can be placed on a table or desk and so need not take up any floor space.
Clean Air Delivery Rate
The Clean Air Delivery Rate is certified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers after testing in independent third party laboratories. For the Honeywell QuietCare 17000-N air purifier the results are :
| Type of Particle | CADR |
|---|---|
| Dust | 44 |
| Tobacco Smoke | 53 |
| Pollen | 58 |
AHAM specify that the tobacco smoke rating should be at least two thirds of the room size in square feet. This means this purifier is rated for a room of 80 square feet.
This model is not an Energy Star rated product

Noise Level
At low the noise is barely noticeable. On medium the unit gives out a soft white noise and you may have to turn up the TV. On high it’s similar to a fan on high setting. It’s best to have it on high when you’re out of the room – for example if you’re out at work.

My mother is severely allergic to cats and was going to be staying for 5 days, 2 weeks prior to her arrival I moved the purifier keeping it in each room for a few days then had it in whatever room she was in along with plenty of cleaning. She didn’t once have to take allergy medicine… (read more here: Honeywell 16200 Air Purifier Review)”
